Thayer Tomlinson, watercolor Guilford, VT
"Through my work, I strive to capture the subtle changes that happen around us each day. When I am working on a painting, I pay much closer attention to the details on all leaves, to the curve of branches, to the weight of blossoms. I take walks and notice more things. I strive to capture all those details in my work—the subjects, the colors, and the light.
I work in watercolor because I love the atmospheric quality of the paint and the immediacy of results. Watercolor paints are wonderfully versatile—I can pack them up in a small bag and paint as I move through the world. All I need is water and a painting surface, be it artist paper or a paper bag."
Thayer Tomlinson has been painting for the past 20 years.
