This hat is 100% Merino wool. A Liz Canali felted hat uses the traditional felting techniques of needle felting and wet felting to create a one-of-a-kind sculptural piece of wearable art. Starting with wool roving, small pieces are laid on a foam form and needle felted in place. This gives Liz the opportunity to combine colors and check for density. Once the form is covered the wool hat blank is removed from the form and wet felted. This is done by adding hot water, soap and agitation to create a tight nonwoven cloth made from natural animal fibers which form an indissoluble and irreversible bond during the production process. Once the hat blank is complete it's put on a hat block or styrofoam head to sculpt it into shape. Once it is dry it holds it's shape. The result is a water resistant, soft, easy to wear hat that will last for many years to come.
